If you do not cover your eyes you’ll be able to see; if you do not shut your ears you’ll be able to hear; if you do not close your nose, you’ll feel the smell; and if you do not close your mind you’ll open the path to the wisdom. Thus, the openness of your mind is of utmost importance for you. Sounds easy, then why it isn’t so feasible in reality?
The above said is not easy to accomplish, because most of the people are not really awake but they are actually sleeping. Yes, they sleep. They live their life as in sequences of one continues sleep. How many times have you heard that someone experience some situations and parts of their life that to him seems just like a dream? My closest friend was divorced after three decades of marriage, and if somebody by chance had asked her a year before the divorce was she happy she would have said that she indeed was. Not that because she wanted to lie but she really thought she was happy. Only when she managed through the divorce and with the elapse of time that was above all, charged with all the stress and the negative feelings that divorce regularly carries, she has experienced herself for the first time in life. She didn’t look herself through the prism of a wife, mother, through the prism of her daughters, friends, as a business women, athlete or any other role that she has successfully achieved through her life. She felt herself. This is one of the human greatest insights, and we always run away from it. Yes, we run away from it because we’re afraid of being empty if we discard all the roles we have in our life; in fact, the situation is quite the opposite – we then experienced fullfilment. By self questioning we examine ourselves and put the perpetual question, such as who am I? Whatever comes to my mind such as I posses my body, my very thoughts, my actions, my name or occupation is actually changing. I’m in a kind of a position to change everything. When we look at ourselves we should see the very essence of our being, what we really are, and that substance are not prone to changing. When we look at ourselves we also have to deal with the negative feelings that we carry within ourselves such as anger or fear, and because of them we might feel restless and weak. All of these emotions block our development.
There is a big difference between sleep and wakefulness. When we wake up, we can become aware of things that surround us. To be aware, you have to be alert: your mind have to be right here and now. Awareness is the ability of observation of your inner self, and then the world that surrounds you. To avoid any confusion, awareness is not only the power of thinking. By thinking we create judgments and conclusions, and it brings to us the past or the future. Awareness brings to us the present time. It’s a feeling of a calm, quiet and alert presence. Why then run away from the present? We have no problem to analyze what we have done in the past and how we behaved the way back then, regardless of whether we have experienced positive or negative images. We do not have any problems with what we want and what we plan to do in the future. Our problem is to face with ourselves. We have a problem to recognize the present.
Only if we decide to wake up and become aware we can really develop and prosper. When you are aware you react less, but you do more. You do not fool yourself into temptation to (try) to fix the situations and people, but instead do try to understand them, and when you have realized that, the change will come by itself. We all want to manage progress in at least one segment of our lives, right? We want it now, right? We want to see changes right now, but we do not realize that we are the change, and the rest is the consequence, a sheer mirror of ourselves. And what do we do now? What shall we do?
